BREATHALYZER CALIBRATION QUESTIONS

Breathalyzer Calibration

What is breathalyzer calibration?

Calibration is checking and adjusting the accuracy of a unit by comparing its results with a known value. For example, a known 0.080 %BAC gas concentration is blown into a breathalyzer, and the unit is adjusted to make sure it correctly reads 0.080 %BAC. It is important to calibrate breath alcohol testers periodically to maintain accuracy.

Does my order come “pre-calibrated”?

All breathalyzers sold by Breathalyzer.net are factory calibrated and ready to use upon receipt. (This is sometimes referred to as “pre-calibrated.”) We work closely with several manufacturing facilities to ensure accurate results for all models.

How do I know when my tester requires calibration?

Breathalyzer.net recommends that the BACtrack testers are all calibrated at least once every 12 months to maintain accurate results.

Depending on usage, units may require more frequent calibration service. For example, subjects should always wait at least 15 to 20 minutes after eating or drinking before blowing into the tester. If a subject blows too soon after eating or drinking, this can damage the sensor and/or require an immediate recalibration.

Many professional customers have access to calibration systems and are able to verify accuracy throughout a unit’s lifetime.
